1921 Rudge-Whitworth Gent’s No 1 Aero Special Roadster

26″ Frame

28″ Wheels

Patent Celluloid Handlebar with Combined Grips

V section Mudguards

Frame No 16891

With its celluloid handlebars – described in the catalogue as ‘ Rudge-Whitworth patent weatherproof lustrous black celluloid to handlebar, brake levers and tubes’ –  plus unique ‘V section’ mudguards and black enamelled frame with bronze lines, this was a top bicycle of its day.

This example is in good all-round condition and ready to ride. It’s an older restoration, with chrome wheels. It has two minor cosmetic issues to contend with: the ends of the handlebar grips are torn (they can be repaired by fitting the end parts of regular grips, which i can supply); and the rear mudguard requires a small support plate welded inside where the stays fit to it – this is a common problem with lightweight ‘V section’ Rudge-Whitworth mudguards.
