The low-built Sunbeam as illustrated below has become so popular that we have decided to supply it at the same price as the standard Golden and Royal Sunbeams.
The machine is built with the crank bracket 11 inches from the ground. This, with the 26 inch wheels and suitable size frame, allows the rider to place a foot on the ground as shown.
It is a very safe mount, especially for those who are no longer youthful, and will enable riders who are at all nervous to cycle with confidence.
For convenience in traffic it is undoubtedly the ideal machine as the rider may now sit nearer the ground with greatly increased control, security and confidence.

1928 Low-Built Golden Sunbeam for Gentlemen
(‘Roman Rustless’ – Aluminium – Rims)
This ‘Low-Built’ Golden Sunbeam is exceptionally well-preserved. Although the paintwork and gold-leaf transfers are starting to show signs of age, the golden box lining remains throughout most of the bicycle. Apart from a deep sense of joy at seeing an original machine that’s 84 years old, it’s also instructive; if we were not born in that era, this is the only way to learn first-hand about the original specification for such a machine.
Apart from smaller wheels, the ‘Low-Built’ Golden is otherwise identical to the 28″ wheel model. It would be hard to notice the difference unless you were an expert.

RIDING THE LOW-BUILT GOLDEN SUNBEAM FOR GENTLEMEN
GOLDEN SUNBEAM PATENT HEAD LOCK with MILLED-EDGE SCREW
The Sunbeam patent head lock is only fitted to the Golden Sunbeam models. It was upgraded to include a ‘milled-edge’ screw, which could be removed when the bicycle was parked, so that it could not be ridden away (ie the handlebars would be locked in place so they could not be turned).
It is very rare to find a Golden Sunbeam that retains this special screw top; they are missing on nearly all the Sunbeams I have owned. This particular example is so original that it even retains its milled-edge screw.
The head lock is disengaged in the photo above, and engaged below.
