The first issue of The Strand Magazine came out at Christmas 1890, and it ran until March 1950. It featured a mix of short stories and factual articles. It became popular very fast, with 300,000 sales of its first issue. Sherlock Holmes made his debut in The Strand. When Doyle’s The Hound of the Baskervilles was serialized, readers lined up outside the magazine’s offices to get their copy.
