While early inline and roller skates had connections to bicycles, a craze took off in the early years of the twentieth century for skates playing on a connection with the latest form of transportation, the automobile. Some companies even fitted miniature engines to skates.

But most just traded on the automobile name. Young’s Automobile Road Skates did not have engines attached. Their design is reminiscent of both the 1896 Choubersky skate and the earlier (1889) Lindsley Road Skate.
