Premier Cycle Works: USA & Japan

The following American cycle manufacturers used the Premier name:

Llewellyn H. Johnson, Orange NJ, 1889

Premier Cycle Co, New York, 1891-1898

Premier Cycle Co, San Francisco, 1898

Premier Cycle Works, Chicago, Ill, 1910

Premier Cycle Mfg Co, Bridgeport, Ct, 1896

Mead Cycle Co, Chicago, Ill

1896 PREMIER CYCLE MFG CO BRIDGEPORT, CONN, USA

As the Premier Cycle Mfg Co of Bridgeport Ct advertised helical frames (above), which were unique to Premier Cycle Co of Coventry, I assume that this company was the American branch of the British company.

MEAD CYCLE CO

Chicago, Ill, USA

One of the Mead Cycle Co’s models was the Premier.

The Premier name, like many of the early company names, was used several decades later, as on this bicycle manufactured during WW2.

PREMIER CYCLE CO,
JAPAN
As the above Japanese Premier headbadge uses the British company’s Kangaroo logo, it may be a badge from the British company’s Japanese branch. There is a report that the failure of the Japanese operation caused Premier of Coventry to cease production of Premier motorcycles in 1914.
