Rudge-Whitworth Saddles

Two early 1900s Rudge-Whitworth Saddles

Saddles from the turn of the century are rare now. Though most saddles fitted to bicycles in this era bore the marks of the top saddle makers such as Brooks, saddles were also made for the Rudge-Whitworth company, bearing their own stamp. The earliest Rudge-Whitworth catalogue I have seen illustrating these saddles is from 1907. The only other catalogue I’ve found showing saddles is the 1915 Rudge catalogue (both reproduced below).

The Model 201 saddle is in first class condition all round. It has a patterned top, and is marked ‘Patent’ above a fleur-de-lys style design.

The Model 701 saddle is worn and a bit battered, but is still in usable condition; this one has three coil springs so that it sits higher.
