Iver Johnson Ephemera

IVER JOHNSON POCKET-WATCH

This Iver Johnson pocket watch is quite large, 2 1/2 inches across. It’s inscribed IVER JOHNSON S. G. CO BOSTON MASS. Inside it states 15 JEWELS, SWISS MADE #62104.

S.G. Co of Boston turned out a lot of metal artefacts around the turn of the century. I’ve come across hunting knives, medals, etc made by them (some sold by Iver Johnson). I bought this watch to mount on the handlebars of the Iver Johnson Truss Bridge bicycle.

IVER JOHNSON MATCH-SAFE

Match safes and lighters were popular as advertising give-aways around the turn of the century. Pope and Iver Johnson were the two of the most prolific advertisers of the era, and both had very successful businesses as a result. This also means, of course, that we can still find plenty of ephemera from these companies, despite the age.

The match safe is pictured next to my ‘Smoker No 2’ Johnson & Bye pistol. That makes the pistol look like a cigarette lighter. It’s not, it’s a real gun that cocks and shoots. Its age and obsolete calibre precludes live firing and makes it legal to own without a license.

IVER JOHNSON INK BLOCK

This is a small ink pad block. Of course, the name is printed as a negative, but I’ve reversed it for the photo.

IVER JOHNSON POLICE FINGERPRINT PAD

Obviously it’s not possible to post a gun from USA to England. But this antique pistol-shaped Iver Johnson fingerprint pad made the journey without any problems.

IVER JOHNSON HOLSTER

1930-1939 IVER JOHNSON CHAMPION SHOTGUN

Serial Number 94075XC

I don’t have much of this Iver Johnson Champion. I found it at Brighton Sunday Market some years ago.

IVER JOHNSON TOOLS

Iver Johnson tools were manufactured for their bicycle and motorcycle range, as well as for their range of guns. This screwdriver and spanner are ready to install in the Truss Frame’s toolbag.
